Week of September 12, 2010 - Allergy Testing

Tuesday, September 14, 2010 - Well, we finally decided to get Miles tested for allergies after his allergic reaction last week. During the allergy screening Miles was scratched on his back 12 times to determine if he was allergic to the "most common" food allergies, i.e. soy, peanuts, milk, rice, etc. After the initial testing was done, it was determined that Miles was allergic to milk, eggs, peanuts and dogs! Miles did so well during the testing, but he was back was really itchy and red due to his allergic reactions. To confirm how allergic Miles was to eggs, peanuts and milk he had to have his blood drawn. Poor little guy! He has been pricked so many times during his first year of life. Once again, Miles was a little trooper and he did extremely when they pricked his arm for the blood. test. When we finally got the results back from the blood tests, it was determined that there would be a 95% chance that Miles would have an allergic reaction to milk, eggs and peanuts and only a 5% chance that the tests were a false positive and he was not actually allergic. We don't want to take any chances so we need to be extra careful on the food Miles eats, especially for his first 5 years of life. The doctor said he will most likely grow out of the milk and eggs allergy within 5 years but there is only a 20% chance he will grow out of the peanut allergy. I never realized how much milk and eggs were in food till I really started reading the ingredients. I feel like Miles can't eat anything. Of course, I will be making him a special birthday cake for his first birthday.

Miles new toy is the dog door. He sees Tyson going out the dog door so he thought it would be fun to try it out himself!!!
